YouCake’s mission is celebrate our family, our friends, colleagues- our lives, work and play. What makes a great YouCake are these personal moments, expressed in the most fun way possible – at a party and on a dessert.
Problems pop up when we google for cake topper party ideas, rather than go through our iphones and personal digital images for inspiration. Copyright laws are meant to protect the brands, publishers, artists and businesses. On the rare occssion an image falls under public domain, most images on the web belong to somebody and cannot be used without permission. From time to time, the images are for sale through vendors such as istock. This includes children’s characters, sport franchises, and even celebrities. Here are two articles that answer all these questions – the most common among them – “Other bakeries do it, why can’t I” and “You are giving companies free advertising, they should love that I want to reprint their image.”

There is no way around using other people’s work without permission. You can ask or you can make your own. Just because you are a fan of Spider Man, Calvin and Fineus, or Iron Man doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate your love and passion for them. Submissions that come in of personal drawings, kids in their super hero costumes, or personal photos of game best scores, wearing your favorite team t-shirt or hat to pay homage…stuffed animals that you are hugging…these are your things and they can be celebrated!
When a logos used for advertisements gets replaced with a personal image…see how much more fun when we celebrate what is most important, ourselves, not the brand.
